Since 2009, Hank Schmidt in der Beek has been producing the ongoing series “Und im Sommer tu ich malen” (And in Summer I Do Paint). Together with photographer Fabian Schubert, he travels through Europe to paint a kind of self-portrait. We see a painter in painterly landscapes. But rather than producing a depiction of the often famously art historical scene before him, the artist draws inspiration from the pattern on his shirt.
