Tutsi winnowing baskets are handcrafted by the Tutsi people of Rwanda. These baskets were traditionally used for winnowing — the act of separating grain from husks through rhythmic shaking. Hand woven from natural grasses and fibre with a simple weave and coiled rim. Made from delicate natural materials they have all been repaired and patched by hand, a mark of their age and use. As a result, each item is one-of-one and completely unique. Today they are recognised as fine craft objects to appreciate but work equally well as a functional item around the home. Tutsi baskets are between 22-29cm h
